Man gets a year in prison for stealing motorcycle

SIBU: A man will now spend 12 months behind bars after he was convicted of stealing a motorcycle.

Wong Gim Hing, 41, from Jalan Embang pleaded no contest to the charge read and explained to him before magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar.

Wong was convicted of stealing a Honda Wave motorcycle in Jalan Mission here at about 11.34am on Feb 8.

The offence is framed under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and fine, upon conviction.

According to the case brief, the owner of the motorcycle — a  woman aged 56 — had parked her motorcycle in Jalan Mission at about 7.52am on Feb 8.

Later at about 11.45am, she returned to find that her machine was missing and suspected that it had been stolen. She lodged a police report.

At about 8.35pm on the same day, police arrested the accused at the second floor of a building in Jalan Lanang. A CCTV recording showed the accused stealing the complainant’s motorcycle.

The motorcycle was seized by the police in Jalan Chew Kung, Sungei Maaw about 4.50pm on Feb 10 as evidence.
