KUCHING: A man has been sentenced to five years in prison and one stroke of the cane by the Sessions Court here for having a knife in his car.
Mohd Long Zul’ain Maula Mohd Bujang, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge read to him through an interpreter before judge Jason Juga.
The court ordered the accused to serve his sentence starting from today.
Based on the case brief, he was charged with having a knife measuring 22.5cm in Jalan BDC here at 1.55am last Feb 13.
He was charged with committing the offence, which is punishable under Section 6 (1) of the Explosives and Dangerous Arms Act 1958 that carries an imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than 10 years if convicted.
The accused, who said the knife belonged to him, also had a criminal record.
