KUCHING: The Magistrates Court here today sentenced a local man to two years in prison and three strokes of the cane for possessing 25.12g of methamphetamine.
Chua Zhi Yik, 26, from Landeh, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charge, he was found in possession of 25.12g of methamphetamine in a rented room above a shop at Jalan Batu Kawa, around 11 am on May 11.
According to the case facts, a team of police officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of IPD Padawan conducted a raid on a rented room at Jalan Batu Kawa and apprehended a man and a woman suspected to be involved in drug activities.
Upon examination, the accused himself handed over a container placed on the table in the room. The container contained 13 transparent packets containing crystal-like substances suspected to be methamphetamine, with a gross weight of 38.35 grams.
The case items were sent to the Chemistry Department, and the report confirmed that it was methamphetamine weighing 25.12 grams.
Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while the accused was not represented by counsel.
