KUCHING: A man has been arrested following a video of him assaulting his girlfriend at a restaurant in Jalan Pending here went viral on social media.
Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect was taken into custody when he surrendered at the Kuching District Police Headquarters at about 6pm on Wednesday (Oct 6).
“Preliminary investigation found that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between the couple, who are in their 30s.
“The victim did not suffer any injuries,” he said on Thursday (Oct 7).
He said the incident happened on Wednesday and the 20-second video recorded by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the premises showed the suspect beating his girlfriend.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to one year or a fine or both.
