MIRI: A man ran amok at Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram near here, leaving fellow villagers fearing for their lives in the early hours of yesterday.

The 35-year-old, who was armed with machetes, began his reign of rage at around 2am, said a source.

After what is believed to be 12 hours of shouting, yelling and screaming, villagers finally caved and called the police.

CID personnel managed to subdue the suspect after he resisted arrest.

A team from the Criminal Investigation Department rushed to the scene and it took the police about an hour to persuade the suspect to surrender — all the while, behaving aggressively towards the law enforcers.

The man was later brought to the police station for questioning. Police also seized a pair of machetes.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
