TAWAU: The police have detained a man last night in connection with the production of matrix cards which allegedly would make the holders untouchable by law.
District Police chief, ACP Fadil Marsus, said the 43-year-old suspect, who was picked up at his house in Kampung Sentosa, Jalan Utara here at 11 pm, had been conducting the activity for a month.
“The card was for the identification of foreigners and individuals without any documents in Sabah.
“It is said that the card has the same function as identity card and passport, and the card holders would not be arrested by the police, the National Registration Department, and the Immigration Department although they have no documents,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
Fadil said the preliminary investigation also found that the suspect charged RM50 per card and it would be ready within three days.
“The applicants only need to provide their names and any kind documentations to the suspect before the card being processed at stationery shops in Tawau,” he said. – Bernama
Fadil said the suspect was believed to have acted alone.
The suspect will be remanded today to facilitate investigations under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. – Bernama
