Man held for bid to steal oil palm fruits

MIRI: Bekenu cops picked up a man for attempting to steal oil palm fresh fruit bunches from an estate in Bungai Sibuti.

According to police, the 34-year old suspect had to abandon his plan to load the fruit bunches onto his motorcycle when estate guards unexpectedly appeared at the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle and fruit bunches were found abandoned at a stretch of the estate road.

A police report was lodged and police traced the suspect’s whereabouts. He was detained for questioning.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspect was arrested from an unnumbered house in Kampung Sulap Lada around 6pm on Tuesday (March 15).

He said, the case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespassing.
