Man held for causing damages to ATM

SIBU: Police here arrested a local man for allegedly causing damages to the screens of an automated teller machine (ATM) and cash deposit machine (CDM) of a bank along Jalan Kampung Nyabor, here.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said they received a police report pertaining to the incident around 9.30 pm on Sunday (Jan 15).

Following the report, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) managed to arrest the 36-year-old suspect at Tanjung Latap the next day (Jan 16).

“Also seized are the equipment used by the suspect during the incident.

“The suspect is currently remanded for two days to facilitate investigations,” he said.

Zulkipli said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing loss or damage to a property.

If convicted, the suspect is liable to be sentenced to a jail term of up to five years or be fined or both.
