KUCHING: Police arrested a local man for drug possession at the parking space of a commercial centre at Mile 10 on Saturday.

Padawan district police deputy chief DSP Merbin Lisa said the suspect was arrested by a team of narcotics police from the district headquarters for suspected drug abuse at 6.45pm.

“We found the suspect to be in possession of 8g of drug believed to be syabu with an estimated street value of RM800.

“We found two translucent plastic packages with seven and six straws respectively containing a crystalline substance believed to be syabu.

“Another translucent plastic contained 10 yellow packages with skull designs on them. The crystalline substance in the packages is believed to be syabu,” said Merbin when contacted yesterday.

He added that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine and had previous record of drug abuse.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days till May 2 to facilitate police investigation under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 the offence which carries not less than two years’ jail but not more than five years.

The offender is also liable to whipping, not fewer than three strokes and not more than nine strokes upon conviction.
