MIRI: A man was arrested after he was found carrying eight barrels of diesel and petrol without a permit on his pickup truck yesterday.

The man, in his 40s, was arrested during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Kontraban’ around 11am at the parking area of a commercial centre at Taman Tunku here.

Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali said his team also detained the suspect’s vehicle for inspection.

“Inspection found that one of the barrels was filled with about 200 litres of diesel and the remaining barrels were filled with about 1,400 litres of RON95 petrol.

“The barrels and the pickup truck with a total value of RM88,820, were seized,” he said.

He added that the suspect failed to produce documentary evidence to possess, store or carry controlled goods without a permit, a license or special permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

Both the suspect and the seized items were handed over to KPDNHEP Miri for further investigation under the Supply Control Act 1961.
