BAU: An unemployed man was arrested by police for selling illegal lotteries at the Pekan Bau Farmers’ Market, here on Tuesday (Jan 18).

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the 28-year-old man from Rumah Gerik, Spaoh was arrested by members of the Bau Criminal Investigation Division (CID) during Ops Dadu.

“The team also confiscated a mobile phone, a piece of paper with numbers believed to be for illegal lottery purposes and cash amounting to RM40,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 19).

He said the case was being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and if convicted, an offender could be fined between RM20,000 and RM200,000 as well as jailed up to five years.
