SIBU: A 20-year-old man was arrested for riding his motorcycle dangerously here last night (Aug 18).

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was detained during Ops Samseng Jalanan conducted along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang.

“He was investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today (Aug 19).

Zulkipli said the operation, which started at 8pm and ended at 2.30 a.m., was carried out by a police team from the Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD).

“During the operation, various summonses were issued for various offences such as no licence, structural modification, exhaust modification, no registration number, failure to display the P sticker, no side mirrors, and incomplete accessories.

“A total of 29 motorcycles were seized for documentation purposes,” he said.

In the meantime, Zulkipli advised road users to abide by the traffic rules.

“Parents are reminded to monitor and be sensitive to their children’s activities so as not to get involved in activities that violate traffic rules and to ensure that their children have a valid driver’s licence,” he stressed.
