KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a jobless man to nine months in jail for concealing a stolen car belonging to an elderly man in September last year.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi meted out the sentence after the accused Mohamad Zulfiqa Yusuf, 30, from Kampung Parit Lama pleaded guilty during the case trial.
Based on the charges, he was accused of hiding the 81-year-old victim’s Toyota Vios car at the parking lot in front of a bistro in Batu Kawah around 5.30 pm on Sept 24, 2022.
Therefore, the accused is charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine or both.
According to the charge sheet, on Sept 15, 2022, at around 9.15 pm, the victim found that his car parked in front of the house, was missing and believed stolen by someone.
The victim then checked his house and found that several important documents kept in the drawer, were missing too.
On Sept 24, 2022, at around 5.30 pm, a police team arrested the accused during an operation codenamed ‘Op Lejang’ for being believed to be involved in a car theft case.
The police was later guided to the location of the hidden stolen car by the accused in Batu Kawah.
Investigation found that the vehicle was the one reported missing by the victim.
Therefore, the accused had committed the offence of concealing the stolen property of a Toyota Vios belonging to the victim.
Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
