KUCHING: The Sessions Court here today (May 24) sentenced a 26-year-old man to 10 years in prison and three lashes for raping an 11-year-old girl.

The man pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 376 (2)(e) of the Penal Code, read before Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi.

The offence occurred in Lundu around 2 pm on May 11.

According to the case facts, at around 3 pm on May 11, the victim’s father saw an unknown man on the veranda of their house with his daughter.

The father asked the man what he was doing. Dissatisfied with the man’s answer that he was “taking care of the victim,” the man left on a motorcycle.

Unsatisfied with the response, the father urged his daughter to tell the truth. She then admitted to having intercourse with the man in her bedroom. A police report was filed by the father, leading to the man’s arrest.

Investigations revealed that the accused had raped the girl after chatting with her for 30 minutes. A medical examination found a tear in the victim’s genitals.
