PADAWAN: A 20-year-old man was killed when the motorcycle he was riding on was hit by a pick-up truck at Mile 16, Jalan Kuching-Serian early this morning (Feb 20).
The victim has been identified as Arnold Riga, from Kampung Menjau in Mile 21 near here.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said in the 4am incident, both vehicles were heading in the same direction – from Serian to Kuching.
“Initial investigation showed that the pick-up couldn’t avoid but crashed into the motorcycle when the latter suddenly changed from the right lane into the left, without any indication.”
“Both of them had lost control of their vehicles due to the strong impact before they plunged into a ditch,” he said.
He said the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) paramedics while the pick-up driver suffered minor injuries.
The body had been taken to the SGH for further action. The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
