LAWAS: A 57-year old man managed to flee from his burning house at Kampung Temangis, Jalan Gaya here this afternoon.
Prior to the incident, the house owner identified as John Voo, was sleeping in the room when he saw thick smoke coming into his bedroom.
He tried to put out the fire but to no avail as it spread swiftly.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, a team of 10 firemen from Lawas fire station rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 12.11pm.
The house was already burned down by the time the firemen arrived. The firefighters however managed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
The cause of the fire and loss to property are yet to be ascertained.
