SIBU: A local man in his 50s lost RM12,997 of his life savings after he was duped by a non-existent job offer recently.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed police received a report from the victim on Monday (Jan 30).

The incident happened when the victim got in touch with a woman named ‘Lapy Tyda’ last week for a job offer to bid for auctioned paintings on a non-existent website called ‘Christies Estimate’.

“The victim was attracted to an offer of  high commission by bidding on a flower vase painting.

“By doing so, the victim was promised that he would be given a commission of between USD1 and USD15 for the bid,” he said.

From Jan 25 to 27, the victim made four transactions into three bank accounts involving a sum of RM12,997.

Each time the victim made a payment, he was told that he would receive a high commission and returns. However, the victim has yet to receive any commissions to date.
