BAU: Police here arrested a local man for allegedly engaging in illegal lottery sales activity in an unnumbered house yesterday.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement said the suspect was apprehended through the ‘Op Dadu’ raid, which was carried out by the district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), at Jambusan old town around 4.15pm.

“The team detained the 38-year-old suspect as he was believed to be carrying out illegal lottery sales activity.

“Two phones, two SIM cards, a receipt containing numbers believed to be illegal lotteries, a mobile printer as well as some cash were also seized,” he said.

The suspect, who had no prior criminal history, was taken to the police station along with the seized items.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which carries for a fine up to RM200,000 or a jail term up to five years, if convicted.
