SERIAN: A local man is now in police custody to facilitate investigations under Section 39 (a)(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug possession.
District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the 37-year-old was picked up by narcotics police at an unnumbered house at Kampung Kakai at 6.15pm on July 8.
Police who checked the back of the suspect’s house found a plastic bag with a tin container in it.
In the container, they found various sizes of translucent plastic sachets and 10 straws of various sizes. All contained crystalline substances believed to be syabu weighing 7.46g and with a street value of RM1,000.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that all the illicit drugs seized were meant to be distributed to pushers in the Serian area,” Aswandy said in a statement on Thursday.
He added the suspect was brought to the district police headquarters, where he tested negative for drugs.
“The suspect has no prior criminal record and will be remanded for four days to facilitate investigations,” he added.
The suspect could face a jail term of two to five years and could be whipped three times to nine times or both upon conviction under Section 39 (a)(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
Aswandy advised the people of Serian to report any suspicious activities in their areas to the police.
