Man nabbed for operating illegal online gambling in Ops Dadu

BAU: A man was arrested on suspicion of operating an illegal online gambling top-up activity in an eatery here last Thursday.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said a CID team carried out the ‘Ops Dadu’ arrest around 2.20pm.

The 30-year-old suspect was found sitting at a table and believed to be operating the online gambling top-up on his phone.

Police seized a handphone and an undisclosed amount of cash from the suspect. The suspect and seized items were brought to Bau police station for further actions.

Background check found that the suspect did not have any past record. He is currently under remand to facilitate investigations.

Poge said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 where upon conviction, the suspect may be fined not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM50,000 or imprisoned not more than three years.
