KAPIT: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday for possession of drugs at Jalan Sungai Asap in Belaga.
State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) chief Supt Hasnir Abdul Hamid revealed that the team confiscated the drugs, believed to be syabu, weighing 32.63g with an estimated worth of RM4,900.
Acting on intelligence, a team from Belaga NCID raided a closed hut and arrested the man who was suspected to be involved in drug abuse around 2.20pm.
A body search was conducted on the suspect and they found a transparent straw containing crystalline fragments of the drug.
Upon further inspection on the hut, they found a white ‘LA Lights’ cigarette box on the table containing six transparent plastic packets with crystalline fragments of the drug.
The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. He was remanded and will be investigated under Section 39A(2), Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, the man could be sentenced to life or not less than five years in prison and receive not less than ten strokes.
