BAU: A local man, who was suspected of selling online gambling top-ups in Siniawan Villa, was arrested by the police here yesterday.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the suspect was apprehended during the ‘Ops Dadu Khas’ raid, which was carried out by the district’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at around 4.30pm.

“The suspect was detained by the team after they identified him as being involved in online gambling sales activities.

“The suspect’s phone, a SIM card as well as a sum of cash were also seized,” he said.

Inspections of the suspect’s phone found transaction records of online gambling top-ups.

The 41-year-old suspect, who had no prior offences, was taken to the police station along with the seized items.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM50,000 or a jail term of up to three years if convicted, Poge added.
