Man sentenced to 34 months’ jail time

MIRI: A 56-year-old man was sentenced to a total of 34 months’ imprisonment by two Magistrates’ Court here yesterday for three crimes of fraudulent land deal, impersonating a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer, and selling a non-existent motorcycle involving a total amount of RM34,100.

The accused Imran Othman Pawi pleaded guilty to all three charges.

For the first two charges, he was slapped with 18 months worth of jail terms by Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie and fined RM1,000 while for the third charge, Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad meted out 16 months of imprisonment and a RM1,600 fine.

The accused was not represented.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of one to 10 years and liable to whipping.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had committed the offence from April to May this year.
