Man threatens attack on wife over money

MIRI: A 35-year-old unemployed man from Jalan Pujut Padang Kerbau here, who allegedly threatened his wife with a 59cm long machete on Saturday evening, has been detained by the police for questioning.

The alleged incident occurred around 6.30pm inside their house after the wife reportedly refused his demand for her gold ring and cash.

When his wife, aged 31 refused to give him her gold ring and cash, the suspect grabbed a machete and pointed it at his wife’s throat.

During the commotion, the suspect allegedly threatened to cut his wife into pieces if she refused his demand.

Fortunately, the suspect’s mother who was at that time in the house, managed to prevent any untoward incident.

Fearing for her safety, the wife immediately rushed to Miri Central police station to lodge a report.

District police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari who confirmed the incident, said the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
