KUCHING: A man was arrested for breaking into a cop’s house on Monday morning.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the incident occurred around 3.30am at Taman Sourabaya Indah here.

The police officer was asleep when he was awakened by the sound of the main door being opened.

“The police officer went downstairs and found that the suspect had entered the house. The suspect was quickly captured by the cop himself and later taken to the police station for further action.

“Further background checks found that the 22-year-old man had previous criminal records related to gambling,” he said, adding that the suspect was positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code where if convicted, the suspect can be jailed for up to a year, or be fined for up to RM1,000, or both.

Awang Din urged the community to work with the police by channeling information on criminal activities through the hotline (082-244444) or contacting any nearest police station.
