Man who falls from wharf found drowned

Firefighters carry Bertolomeus’s remains after it was fished out of the water to be handed over to the police for their further action.

SIBU: The body of a man who reportedly fell off from the Rantau Panjang wharf here at 8.45 am yesterday was found an hour later.

A spokesman from State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the department received a distress call on the incident at 8.46am yesterday.

The victim identified as Bertolomeus Ngaji, 48, from Indonesia was found by firefighters at 9.40am about two metres away from the wharf.

Firefighters used the gripping iron method to locate the victim before he was fished out from the water.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced Bertolomeus had died due to drowning.

His remains were later handed over to the police for their further action.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation concluded at 9.50am.
