Man who fell into Sarawak river found drowned

KUCHING: The body of a 33-year-old man who fell into the Sarawak River last Thursday was found yesterday near the Lajim river port in Kampung No. 6, here.

The State Fire Department operations centre said the man, identified as Awangku Sahiful Awangku Sazali, was found afloat in the river about 2.5km from where he fell.

At 12.05pm, the team retrieved the body and brought it to the control post for the family to verify.

The body was later handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for further action.

The third day of the search was carried out in two sectors and covered a radius of 16km from where the victim fell.

The operation involving the police, Marine Police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), was eventually called off at 12.55pm after the body was found.
