BELAGA: Community leaders here have urged that the proposed Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Fund be well managed and benefit every race in Sarawak.

Pemanca Tony Kulleh and Pemanca Umek Jeno in a joint statement on Thursday (Nov 24) said “we hope that the proposed Sovereign Wealth Fund, which is expected to generate considerable income, be shared fairly and equally among the people of Sarawak.”

Both also stressed that the Board of Management (BoM) for the Sovereign Wealth Fund must be represented by every ethnic group in Sarawak.

“Some funds must be channelled to the various non-governmental organisations such as Lembaga Amanah (Board of Trustees) of various ethnic groups to assist them in the education, economic and social fields.

“The Sovereign Wealth Fund must also be managed with complete transparency, trust and integrity by BoM where the terms of reference for BoM must be defined and stated clearly, officially and accordingly.”

They also pointed out that the Sovereign Wealth Fund Bill should give equity shares to stakeholders who are directly affected by hydroelectric projects in Bakun, Murum, Batang Ai and Baleh.

“On behalf of the people in Belaga, it is our sincere hope that the above requests be given due consideration,” said Tony and Umek.
