BAU: Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who escaped on a motorcycle in Kampung Segong after a failed robbery attempt here, yesterday (Jan 25).

Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon confirmed that they received a police report around 7.10 pm and a special team from the Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Bau CID was mobilised to track down the suspect.

The victim’s motorcycle which was stolen by a suspect from Kampung Segong.

The incident happened when the victim was at home and he was approached by an unknown man (suspect) armed with a shotgun.

“The suspect later pointed the firearm at the victim’s chest and forced him to give him money.

“However, a struggle ensued and the 25-year-old victim managed to escape to his relative’s house for help.

“The suspect later ran towards the road and abruptly stopped a 28-year-old motorcyclist by aiming his shotgun at the victim, causing him to lose control of his motorcycle,” he said.

Poge added that the suspect managed to flee the scene with the victim’s motorcycle – a grey-coloured Yamaha Y15 with the plate number QCK4219.

Police managed to find a homemade shotgun and a 12-bore cartridge that were dumped at the roadside by the suspect.

“The estimated losses suffered by the motorcyclist, including his phone are RM12,400.

“The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalties) Act 1971,” he said.
