SIBU: Three members of Geng Joseph, a group active in robbing swiftlet farms here, are being hunted.

The district’s police have established a special team to track down the gang, which has committed at least six robberies so far, causing losses to the tune of RM53,400.

Sibu OCPD ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed that the three members are Tadung Sawin, 31; Sayun Dawai, 49, and Jeffery Sulan, 42.

“They are members of the Joseph Gang. In a special operations last May, we arrested another member, 33, as well as three others aged between 21 and 41.

“The suspects are now under remand and investigations are still ongoing.”

During the operations in May, police also confiscated a car, a guitar, a scraper and a phone, all valued at about RM20,000.

The gang would target swiftlet farms in Sibu’s rural areas as well as committing theft and robbery.

“They would bring along such tools as hammers, machetes, scrapers and flashlights.

“They are very aggressive and dangerous because they would tie up the swiftlet farm owners, hit and threaten them with machetes.”

ACP Stanley added that the gang was active at night and early in the morning, especially during the movement control order (MCO).

“This is because the owners could not visit their swiftlet farms owing to the MCO.

“Should the public have information on the whereabouts of the three suspects, they are to go to the nearest police station.”
