MIRI: The body of a man was found in a hut in an orchard at Kampung Beraya along the Miri Coastal Road this early morning (July 23).

The village is located about 45 minutes’ drive from the city centre.

According to Miri Police Chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the body was discovered at 6.30am by the owner of the orchard.

“We believe that the deceased was a foreign man because of the absence of the Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine (BCG) mark on his body,” he said.

Lim added that based on police preliminary investigations, the man had been dead less than 24 hours.

“No criminal elements were found at the scene or the body.

“We have classified the case as sudden death,” he said.

The body was taken to Miri Hospital for post mortem.

Sibu deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said the deceased was identified as Kunjang Basan, 67, from Sri Aman. He was found lying motionless on the floor at around 7.30am

“Initial investigations revealed that the homeless man had asthma and tuberculosisbased on his medical report book.

“We also found his medications,” Collin said in a statement

The body was taken to the Sibu Hospital mortuary.

Collin pointed out that no foul play was suspected and that the case had been classified as sudden death.
