KUCHING: “We have nothing because the allocation of RM100million for dilapidated schools is throughout Malaysia,” said Education, Science and Technologcal Research Minister, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong.

He said that the current budget announced on Friday by the new Pakatan Harapan government have nothing for the state Education Ministry.

“The allocation of RM100 million for dilapidated school is for throughout Malaysia.

“We have at the moment, minus 116 dilapidated school which was done by previous Barisan Nasional government begining of the year, we left 904 dilapidated school and our estimate for that is atleast RM3 billion to rebuild or upgrade,” he stressed when met by reporters at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here, after the PBB Supreme Council meeting Saturday.

He then said for long term solution, the dilapidated schools need to be move (pindah).
“Thats mean rebuild, and we need RM3 billion for the total of 904 dilapidated schools in the state.
“But the dilapidated schools only get allocation of RM100million which is for throughout Malaysia, so how much we can get?

“Probably RM10million or RM5 million? We don’t know,” Manyin said.  He said at the moment, the state was not with current federal government.  “Therefore, the ministry might have to resort to the state funds to repair the dilapidated schools.

“But that is not very fair, because you and I are paying taxes. You look at that, we pay about 15% percent taxes but we get only 1.4% in return.

“So this is where Sarawakians need to fight during the election,” he stressed.
