SARIKEI: On Thursday, at about 2.45pm, Marine Police personnel, acting on public information, conducted inspection on a logpond area at Jalan Sungai Petai.

Sarawak Region 5 Marine Police Commander ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman said as the result of inspection in the area, two piles of logs totalling about 300 of different sizes and species were found and the logs bore no marking of the State Forest Department.

The logs and a mechanical shovel, worth a total value of RM304,000, were seized.

“All of the logs were suspected illegally obtained,  an offence under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance, 2015.

“An Indonesian found in the area was detained under the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a work permit or a valid travel document,” said Salehuddin.

A report had been lodged at the Sarikei police station

All confiscated logs had been handed over to the Sarikei Division Forest Department for further action while the illegal immigrant was handed to the Sarikei police station for further action.
