Marine police seize diesel worth RM163,000

A tanker truck transporting 4,000 litres of diesel without permission from KPDNHEP was thwarted by Limbang Marine Police last Thursday.

BINTULU: The Sarawak Marine Police Region Five thwarted two attempts of transporting 20,000 litres of diesel worth RM163,000 without valid documents in separate operations.

Its commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali, who confirmed the cases, said the first operation took place on Wednesday (Aug 18) at Jalan Bintulu-Bakun.

“In the operation codenamed ‘Op Kontraban’, the team detained a tanker truck for inspections. It led to the discovery of 16,000 litres of diesel inside the truck.

“The team also arrested the driver as he failed to submit any documented evidence or licence from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumers Affair (KPDNHEP),” he said.

The diesel and driver were handed over to the Bintulu KPDNHEP for further actions.

Meanwhile in Limbang, the second seizure took place on Thursday (Aug 19) at a ferry jetty where a tanker truck was found to be transporting 4,000 litres of diesel.

Zulfikar pointed out that the diesel and the driver were handed over to Limbang KPDNHEP.

The estimated total seizure value from both operations is RM163,000.

Zulfikar said the cases were being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.
