KUCHING: Plans to rejuvenate the markets in Sungai Maong (Mile 3), Mile 7 and Mile 10 are still in progress, said Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang.

According to him, the proposal had been done and was submitted to the Sarawak Implementation Monitoring Unit (SIMU).

“We are still awaiting the state government’s allocation so that we can implement the project.

“At the moment, we have not received any sort of feedback, but the council has submitted the proposal, and we hope for the best as well,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters during his Chinese New Year open house, which was attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his residence here today (January 23).

He went on to say that the project for the three markets had a price range of RM10 million to RM20 million.

“The council had also been doing follow-ups for a very long time.

“However, there are other, many things that we want to develop as well, not just for the market,” he added.

The MPP chairman also noted that the project only involved extending and refining the spaces of the market.

Lo had earlier hoped that the RM10 million rejuvenation project for Sungai Maong market at Mile 3 would be approved soon and be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
