MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) together with the city Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) carried out cleaning and disinfection work at markets and tamu here on Thursday.

Divided into three teams, they included manpower from Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd.

Miri mayor Adam Yii said the locations were Tamu Muhibbah, Tamu Kedayan, Tamu Khas, Miri Fish Market, Tamu Pujut Corner, Taman Tunku Market, Tamu Morsjaya, Tamu Dato Ahmad Lai, Unity Food Centre and Krokop 10 Market.

Yii was accompanied by Miri Bomba chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

“Today (yesterday), Covid-19 preventive measures are being carried out at all markets and tamu as these premises are open to the general public,” said Yii.

In addition, he said, MCC had also disinfected surfaces, goods and appurtenances likely to come in contact with the public such as the markets and tamu since March 23.

“We will continue with such preventive measures,” he stressed.

When asked whether Miri would proceed with its annual Ramadan bazaars, the mayor said that it is very likely there would be no bazaars this year.

Meanwhile, for the coming Qingming festival (celebration to commemorate the dead), which usually falls on April 4 or 5 every year, Yii urged the Chinese community to avoid crowds and practice safety measures.
