KUCHING:The Marudi constituency has received a total of RM475,000 in grants for repair and construction of various houses of worship from Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).

Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said Unifor would be monitoring the progress of the projects to ensure that the funds are utilised properly.

“In 2017, the state government allocated RM15 million for the purpose of construction and repair of houses of worship in Sarawak.

“For 2018, a total of RM20 million was allocated for the same purpose and this amount increased to RM30 million in 2019,” he said in a Facebook post.

Last Wednesday, the Marudi assemblyman attended the presentation of cheques to religious bodies at Wisma Bapa Malaysia by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also minister-in-charge of Unifor.

A total of RM38.747 million was distributed to representatives of religious bodies. The allocation was part of the RM50 million allocation approved by the state government this year for the construction and repair of houses of worship.
