MARUDI: As the Northeast Monsoon season looms, Marudi prepares with the establishment of an operations room set to remain active until February 2024.

This was announced during the Marudi District Disaster Management Committee Meeting, chaired by District Officer Belayong Pok yesterday (Dec 22).

According to Belayong in a UKAS report, the preparation is important due to Marudi’s historical susceptibility to floods.

During the session, the committee not only outlined the contingency plans for the impending floods, but also sought input from various agencies, especially those directly involved in managing flood-related disasters.

Meanwhile, the Deputy District Officer Rose Edward Tarang advised every agency to prioritise their own safety to ensure that the process and work goes smoothly.

Also present were Marudi District Office Administrative Officer Fazzwan Yunus, Heads of Agencies and Heads of Departments in Marudi District as well as community leaders and village heads of Marudi District.
