KUCHING: Whoever is being nominated as the new Dewak Rakyat Speaker must be capable and a fair man.
This is because the person will administer the nation’s highest legislative body, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.
He was commenting on Gabungan Parti Rakyat (GPS) parliamentary chief whip Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof’s remarks that the candidate to be appointed as the new Speaker had been identified.
When asked if there was a possibility that someone from Sarawak was appointed, Masing said he really hoped and prayed that a Sarawakian would be the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.
“However, I still have my doubt knowing the political scenarios in Malaya,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday (July 3).
According to Bernama, Fadillah said the candidate for the Dewan Rakyat Speaker was not a member of parliament.
“I’m not naming anyone, but what’s for sure is that the candidate is well qualified and a Malaysian,” he said.
