KUCHING: The needs of the nation come first when federal ministers and others in the federal administration are appointed, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.

He said the wishes and wants of individual parties are secondary to the rights of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to form his Cabinet.

“Cabinet appointments are the prerogatives of the prime minister. Being the captain, he decides who he wants to be in his crew,” he said.

Yesterday, nine out of 18 GPS MPs were appointed to federal Cabinet posts — four ministers and seven deputy ministers.

Two former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak MPs were also appointed as deputy ministers.
