KUCHING: Irrespective of their religious beliefs Sarawakians have been encouraged to appreciate at least the basic Islamic teachings.
“This is to enable us to co-exist peacefully and harmoniously, and share the Raya celebration with them,” said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing in his Hari Raya Aidilfitri message.
He thinks the appreciation would develop through the sharing of Islamic religious festivals.
“I urge those of other faiths to learn the discipline derived by Muslims from fasting for a month each year,” said Masing, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president.
“Let us get together to enjoy this festive occasion while we strive to appreciate and better understand this festival celebrated by our Muslim brethren.
“The fasting month, to me, is not only a religious practice, which allows Muslims to better understand the misery of the needy. It also injected discipline of character and unity of purpose among the believers,” he said.
On behalf of PRS, he wished all his Muslim friends in Sarawak (and Malaysia) “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2019”.
