SIBU: Women play important roles in shaping and molding their own future, said Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

“I shall, therefore, gladly contribute RM50,000 to your fund,” he said when officiating at PRS Women’s International Day at a leading hotel here over the weekend.

He then urged other dinner attendees to open their hearts and wallets and make financial contributions to the organisation that would produce and nurture future leaders and administrators.

“Our nation depends on the tender loving care of our women,” said Masing, who is also deputy chief minister.

“So be nice to your wife or husband because husbands and wives nurture better leaders who can make the world safer for all of us.

“We don’t want to produce a generation of people who will turn our country upside down, or those who twist and turn in politics. Nor do we want to be led by people who create political mess and then pretend to be the problem solver.”

To the ladies at the dinner, he said their gentle and caring hands shaped and nurtured future leaders, and he called them “the building blocks of family livelihood and unity”.

“Never underestimate your roles, nor should you allow anybody to downplay your part in building our nation,” he said.

“You are the ‘bricks and the stones’ which builders place block by block to build structures such as homes.”

As president of PRS, Masing said it had been his prime objective to share the positions, responsibilities and wealth of the government, but it was easier said than done.

“Many of our men have not relinquished the traditional male dominance. So, ladies, don’t give up hope in pursuing women’s rights — your rights — within PRS.

“To my male colleagues, please let your guard down a bit, and allow our ladies to come into your domain and make your house into home,” he said.

In politics women are more trustworthy in keeping their words, he said, adding that they had very keen sense of observing change in their surroundings, including change in people’s behaviors, and most importantly, they are more reliable than men in keeping their words and staying loyal to an organisation.

Their sixth sense is almost uncanny and frightening, at times, he added.

“We may need your power of observations and loyalty to the government of the day. Men and women of GPS will face the force of DAP and PKR from Malaya.

“We must never give an inch of our land to them, nor our assets to outsiders. We must protect our fair land Sarawak,” he said.
