KUALA LUMPUR: MAB Kargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) has become the first airline and cargo terminal operator in Malaysia to adopt the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Dangerous Goods AutoCheck (DG AutoCheck) platform for the acceptance of dangerous goods shipments.

The cargo arm of the Malaysia Aviation Group said it would start using the DG AutoCheck system at the Advanced Cargo Centre today (Sept 1).

Chief operations officer Mohd Zulkeflly Ujang said IATA’s DG AutoCheck solution would be a great asset especially on the safety perspective of MASkargo operations.

“With trained personnel employing the system, we are moving closer to our end goal of a fully automated warehouse. Our customers will definitely benefit from the efficiency of this system,” he said in a statement today.

DG AutoCheck is a digital solution that enables airlines, ground handlers and freight forwarders to automatically check the compliance of the shipper’s Declaration for Dangerous Goods (DGD) against all relevant provisions of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

MASkargo said the IATA’s DG AutoCheck would facilitate the verification of the packages’ marks and labels on dangerous goods consignments.

“On the average, we handle more than 50,000 tonnes of dangerous goods annually. As cargo types get more sophisticated and complex due to customers’ demands and needs, this digital tool will greatly assist MASkargo in improving the dangerous goods handling procedures.

“IATA’s innovative solution will further enhance safety and improve efficiency in the handling of dangerous goods,” it said.

Meanwhile, IATA senior vice president for operations safety and security Nick Careen said the association was pleased that MASkargo had selected the IATA DG AutoCheck to automate its dangerous goods compliance check, as the adoption of modern and harmonised standards was essential to facilitate safe, secure and efficient operations, particularly in relation to carriage of dangerous goods. – Bernama
