KUCHING: The eight Covid-19 positive healthcare workers (HCWs) reported yesterday were a result of the implementation of mass screening on HCWs at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), said Sarawak Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

He said of the eight cases, seven were from SGH while the other was from Samarahan Division Health Office.

“This is a result of us carrying out mass screening for all clinical staff at SGH in order to detect the cases. From our findings, a lot of cases at SGH are asymptomatic.

“Therefore, we need to conduct this mass screening to pick up all the cases,” he said at the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Covid-19 daily update press conference yesterday.

He said that almost all of the HCWs had already been covered.

“Those who test positive for Covid-19 will be treated and all their contacts will be traced,” assured Dr Chin.

He hoped that with this mass screening exercise, the transmission of Covid-19 among HCWs in SGH could be curtailed.
