SIBU: A mass screening will be held to weed out the Covid-19 cases in Sibu Jaya.

Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said it will be conducted on Sibu Jaya flat residents and the Sibu Jaya Town Villa housing area involving about 6,000 individuals.

The screening is expected to be completed in four to five days.

“We will go from house to house for the Sibu Jaya Town Villa housing area while for the Sibu Jaya flat we will instruct all residents to come down to be screened. All their names will be recorded and checked to make sure no one is left out.

“The residents of Sibu Jaya flat showed a high rate of infection. We do not want to take a long time to perform screening as we are worried that the virus could potentially spread further,” he said today (Feb 11).

Dr Annuar, who is Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said roadblocks would be implemented in four identified locations leading to the two localities which would begin at midnight under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).

On the number of cases, he said Sibu Jaya recorded 247 positive Covid-19 cases of which 129 of them or more than 50 percent came from the two areas.

“Cases from areas in Town Villa are high, of the 83 cases reported in Sibu yesterday (Feb 10), 36 of which were from Sibu Jaya Flats and Sibu Jaya Townvilla Housing area.

“Similarly, on Tuesday (Feb 9) out of 56 cases reported in Sibu, 27 or more than 40 percent came from the two settlements,” he said.
