Massive jam as oil tanker crashes in Miri

MIRI: Traffic along the city centre heading towards a private medical centre, near a fuel station adjacent to Tamu Muhibbah, came to a standstill for nearly two hours early this morning when an oil tanker carrying diesel skidded and crashed into the flyover wall.

The incident saw the tanker blocking the lane, causing traffic to come to a standstill.

Acting Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee said Bomba received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.04am.

“A team of firemen from the Miri central fire station was deployed to the scene to help free the trapped driver and send him to the Miri Hospital for treatment,” he said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Firemen flushed and cleared the road to allow other vehicles to pass.

Traffic returned to normal after 2am.
