KUCHING: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sarawak Fair is a testament to Sarawak’s resilience and is very much aligned with the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this will provide global exposure and endless business opportunities in the exciting era of groundbreaking travel innovations and technological advancements.

“This event is undoubtedly a high-impact platform to secure investment opportunities for industry players while showcasing the best travel deals to the general public.

“I would like to congratulate the MATTA Sarawak Chapter chairman and his team for their unwavering passion and commitment to promote Sarawak and Malaysia as an unforgettable, world-class destination for adventure and once in a lifetime experiences,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the MATTA Sarawak Fair scheduled for Aug 6-7 at Boulevard Mall Kuching today.

Abdul Karim said MATTA Sarawak Chapter’s efforts have ensured that the tourism industry is returning stronger than ever after the pandemic.

He also said that his ministry is looking forward to more leading contributions and changes within the global tourism industry.

Meanwhile, MATTA Fair Sarawak chairman Oscar Choo said the fair, which serves as a one-stop platform for consumers to choose their holiday destinations, aims to offer an abundance of promotions for both domestic and international travel packages which will indefinitely bring growth to the travel and local industries.

“This year itself, the fair features 33 booths in Kuching and eight booths in Miri from different tour and travel companies,” he said, adding that the fair targets a total of 10,000 visitors with a targeted sales of RM2 million during the two-day fair.

“Following the reopening of borders starting April 1, and the shifting to the endemic phase, standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been relaxed and there is no need to undergo quarantine.

“MATTA is extremely grateful for this announcement as it provides a glimmer of hope for all tour operations to reopen their business,” he said.
