KUCHING: The federal government will be announcing matters that were agreed upon relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) on Jan 4.

In disclosing this, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that the announcement will be made by the Prime Minister himself after the Cabinet has a thorough discussion on the matter on the same day.

He added that he had called the MA63 technical committee to look into and finalise a number of matters that had been planned during the previous government, especially on what had been agreed upon.

“In regards to the MA63, there are three matters overall. One of them has been resolved through the devolution of power to agencies such as the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID); another is a matter that we have discussed and reached an agreement on; and the third is still under discussion.

“On top of that, there will be another matter that will be announced on that day that is outside the scope of MA63, but it is something that is requested by Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

He said this when met by the media during his Christmas walkabout together with Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki at Jalan Nanas here, today (Dec 24).

Adding on, he stated that there are also several matters related to MA63 that need amendments to the Federal Constitution and will take time to be resolved.

“For those matters, we have to wait for the Parliament session for them to be tabled and approved before we finalise them,” he said.

For the record, on Dec 5, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tasked Fadillah with expediting all matters related to the MA63 to continue restoring the rights of Sabah and Sarawak.
