MUKAH: A trader in Matu near here was compounded RM100 on the spot for failing to display pink price tag on Grade B eggs offered for sale during the implementation of Raya Puasa 2021 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Mukah branch also seized 660 units of eggs involved worth RM216.50 from the proprietor’s business premises.

The ministry’s branch head Salihin Den said the case was under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011, and was the only one detected during Raya Puasa SHMMP 2021.

“Generally, traders comply with SHMMP this time, and the ministry wishes to thank them for their cooperation, and hopefully they will continue to do so in future,” he said via WhatsApp on Tuesday.

He was asked whether there was any case of flouting the law throughout Raya Puasa SHMMP.

Elaborating the case, Salihin added the offence was under Perintah 2 (2) Perintah Kawalan Harga dan Antipencatutan (Penandaan Harga Barangan Harga Terkawal), which was a violation of sub-paragraph 2 (1) that is, failing to display pink price label which shows the price for each unit or every weighed unit, describing the name of controlled price goods and grade or quality of goods.

In a related issue, he said there was no report received in relation to Raya Puasa SHMMP this time.
