MIRI: Thirty-two councilors of Miri City Council (MCC) including mayor Adam Yii and his deputy Julaihi Mohamad sat down for their first full council meeting yesterday, two days after their swearing-in in Kuching.
Yii made several changes to better improve MCC’s service delivery to Mirians.
Among them is the Green, Community and Environment Development sub-committee headed by Karambir Singh. The sub-committee replaced the Miri Local Agenda 21.
Yii placed the landscape division under the Tourism Development sub-committee led by Warzieda Ahmad.
“We are at the frontline, we must perform and be seen to be capable of making positive changes,” the mayor opined in his opening address.
He went on to announce that the city was now divided into 15 zones which included the sub-district of Bario. Before yesterday there were 25 zones.
On Miri’s 20th anniversary celebration, which was supposed to be held last May 20 but postponed due to engagements, Yii said a new date would be picked.
“What we can confirm at the moment is that our guest of honour will be the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.”
Earlier, Yii welcomed the councilors who will be serving MCC for a two-year term.
The new faces are Romulus Charles Agan Raja,Bonnie Aling, Aries Leong Chin Lim, Tan Lek Jin, Peter Chia Chau Khiong, Chin Fook Kim, Leslie Lau Ik Chie(SUPP Miri Piasau youth chief) , Toh Kah Siong, Supang Pu’un and Arther Tiong Bing Chong.
Those reapppointed are Pui Yeong Fan, Kueh Chie Tong, Goh Khiok Seng, Joanna Ping Eng Oyok, Jeffery Phang Siaw Fong, Mohamad Sardon Zainal, Misiah Abdullah, Rexsoll Gilum, Dominica Lucia Tinggang, Bhagwan Singh, and Karambir Singh Honey.
